The soaring prices of the real estate Kochi
is due to the
various facilities that have now come up in Kochi. Kochi has today become the center place of all
activity in not only Kerala but the whole of India.
Major industrial investments are expected to be attracted and large scale employment to be thrown up due
to the port based special economic zone which is a special enclave at Puthuvype. Opportunities will be
offered by this project in various associated ventures such as an international ship repair complex, a
gas based power project and a desalination plant. As a part of the port based activity a free trade
warehousing zone has also been sanctioned. This would serve as another attraction for the investors who
want to opt for real estate investments in Cochin. Cochin is expected to need an additional accommodation
facility for more than 25,000 people within a five year period. A major demand supply gap in commercial
and residential properties is expected to be created.
A special committee has been appointed to prepare a project to reform traffic system in Cochin City by
the GoK. The plan that has been recommended by the committee includes the construction of 16 roads, out
of which five need to be completed urgently. Besides these, it has also been suggested that Cochin can
have 3 or 4 more over bridges other than the South and North over bridges that carry the majority of the
traffic in and out of the city. AS per the city development plan most of these roads are proposed to be
upgraded to NH standards.
