Sedation dentistry is commonly used to calm and relax patients before more-intensive procedures.Dentist sedation techniques vary depending on the procedure in question, and even on the dentist. Not all dentists are licensed to perform all sedation procedures, so you should talk to your dentist in advance about his or her particular qualifications. There are many levels of dentist sedation, ranging from simple relaxation to unconsciousness. The invasiveness of the procedure typically dictates the level of sedation employed. Again, you should discuss the procedure beforehand with your doctor.

As per my knowledge, dental sedation is a technique that can be used when a patient suffers from anxiety or fear of the dentist.
