Does Tamoxifen Cause Liver Cancer

Unread postby HealthForum » Sun Mar 27, 2011 7:43 am

Hi there. My sister in low has a early stage breast cancer and is taking tamoxifen pills. I was doing some research on the net and found out that tamoxifen can cause liver cancer. Is this true ? What is the connection between tamoxifen and liver cancer ? thanks

I think liver cancer is also occasionally called hepatoma because it comes from the hepatocytes. It is identified into two different types. They are the primary liver tumor and the additional liver tumor.

Although the report does state that Tamoxifen has potentially serious side-effects, it does not mention that those ‘side-effects’ include cancer itself. There have been a few reports of liver cancer. There have also been reports of other liver toxicities. Tamoxifen can cause liver cancer in certain strains of rats. But it is not known to cause liver cancer in humans.
