kidney donor complications

Unread postby HealthForum » Sun Mar 27, 2011 9:47 am

My husband has had complete kidney failure for about a year and a half now. I volunteered to donate my kidney to him because we are a perfect match ( same blood type and tissue testing). I know that he can die from kidney failure and although he is on dialysis , he is in dire need of a kidney.

I suppose that I am a bit frightened of complications or worse yet, dying on the operating table. Please do not get me wrong. I want to give him my kidney because I love him very deeply. But, for some reason I keep thinking about how I might die during the surgery. My family members say this is because my brother in law recently passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack.

What are the actual chances of dying during a living donor transplant? What causes the death during this type of transplant?
