The Relevance of Five- Panchakarma

Unread postby histica » Thu Apr 14, 2011 6:03 am

Health is the most valuable asset that a living being needs to live life to the fullest. Good health is proccured when toxins in the body are eliminated, all vital parts are working at their fullest and when the inner self is at peace. The modern way of living has invited stress, tension and pollutants to react with our body. It is a known fact that if toxins accumulate, then our body will turn incapable of functioning properly.

In Ayurveda, the therapy known as Panchakarma is undertaken formostly to cleanse all body toxins and to acquire balance between body, mind and conciousness. The reason for this practice is that for any other treatment and therapy to have positive effect on the body, the body needs to be clean of all impurities. The elimination of all poisons and dirt will in turn lead to acceptance of the medicines and treatments.

Panchakarma in Sanskrit stands for pancha meaning five and karma meaning therapeutic measures. Five types of therapeutic measures are undertaken for purification of the body. The ayurveda products used in the therapy are efficient in bringing back health and vigour to the human body. The therapy consists of many types of herbal massages, baths, and other practices. Steam, external oil treatments, Basti (medicated enemas), Virechana (purgation through herbs), Vamana (emesis through herbs), Nasya (nasal administration of oils) etc. being some of them. This natural de-tox program helps in elimination of deep seated diseases and regains a healthy state of mind, body and soul.
