Depends on the dentist. I've NEVER had nitrous oxide. All I get is novocaine injections (which don't work too well on me, yay screwed up biochemistry). When I had my wisdoms pulled, it was under general anesthesia. A lot of pain, I've found, can be blocked out with your mind.

Well there are types as well as degrees of sedation, the technique to be use depends on how long would the dental procedure take.
