the need to take big gulps of air?

Unread postby HealthForum » Sat Mar 26, 2011 9:01 pm

I frequently feel the need to take big gulps of air, and I have had this problem since I was a teenager. It started sometime during high school. On page 10 of the asthma forum there are several people describing the exact same problem. I don't have asthma, I don't think, and there isn't a history of it in my family. I feel the need to yawn, but it takes several times of doing this before I can actually get a satisfying breath. I seem to especially have this when I am sitting down in a movie theater. Taking the proper breath requires me to stop whatever I am doing, even to the point of pausing a movie, so I can concentrate on doing it. Often when I am sitting with my fiance I have to sit up straight all of a sudden, or lie down to get the breath I feel that my body needs. Any suggestions as to what this might be, or what I can do?
